The Painted Hall Project begins this month
The Old Royal Naval College is delighted to have secured funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund who have awarded them a second-round pass for a £3.1million grant towards its £7 million Painted Hall Conservation Project. Over the next three years the ORNC plans to conserve the remaining 40,000 square feet of Thornhill’s masterpiece and restore the Painted Hall to its former glory. The project will also give them an opportunity to share conservation skills and bring the stories behind the Painted Hall to life in creative ways. William Palin, the Director of Conservation has given some insight into the project in his recent blog post which members may enjoy reading HERE.
The ORBC also plans to bring a range of volunteering opportunities to this unique project, is very keen to bring local volunteers on board and would like to work with the Greenwich Society to share these exciting opportunities.
The ORNC will be hosting a Volunteer Recruitment Event on the 23rd and 24th September for those who are interested. The details of this event are being finalised, so watch this space.
