Change of Chairman

Announcement by Dr Kevin Fewster:

At the conclusion of my report to our recent AGM I announced my intention to step down as Chairman of the Society in July as my wife and I are planning to return to Australia later this year.   I wish to thank everyone on the Executive Committee, our dedicated volunteers and all our members who have helped and encouraged me during my term as Chairman. The Greenwich Society has been an important part of our lives in Greenwich over the past 17 years. We will miss all the friends we’ve made and the countless delights that Greenwich has to offer.   

The Executive Committee has elected Norman Adams to be the Society's new Chairman. I'm sure Norman is well-known to most members through the great service he gave as a Greenwich councillor over many years. I suspect Norman is the first former Mayor of Greenwich to serve as Chairman of the Greenwich Society. 

And some words from our new chairman, Norman Adams:

          

 I am a local lad from Charlton who went to a local grammar school and then LSE and then fell into a professional career as a Chartered Surveyor and  Chartered Loss Adjuster whilst being first elected to Greenwich Council in 1978 until  2022,  representing wards in Charlton and Kidbrooke areas. During this time I served for 10 years as Planning Chair and held other positions including Depuy Leader, Chair of the Pension Fund and Mayor in 2015-2016.  I also represented the Borough on LPAC ( London Planning Advisory Committee) which dealt with Planning issues across London after the Greater London Council was abolished in 1986. I am a firm believer in the principle “ if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”.
