March/April update: TfL report, air pollution surveys

TfL’s Silvertown Tunnel report - burying bad news

Transport for London has snuck out its report into last year’s Silvertown Tunnel consultation. Reading beneath the headline results, it’s clear that many local people and businesses are concerned about the effects a tunnel would have on traffic congestion and pollution. Read our response to TfL’s report here.

Newham/ Tower Hamlets air quality studies

We’ve recently carried out our third air quality study, this time in association with Mapping for Change. We covered 25 locations in Silvertown, Canning Town and Poplar to measure air pollution in communities north of the river that will be affected by TfL’s proposals. One of our committee has also led a study looking at streets in Catford and Hither Green around the South Circular Road. We’ll bring you the results when they come back from the lab.

Local air quality studies in Greenwich and Bexley

We’ve also been pleased to see other residents’ groups south of the river carry out their own studies, this time with our friends at Network for Clean Air. We’ll be looking out for the results of studies from the East Greenwich Residents’ Association, Charlton Central Residents Association, Westcombe Society and a residents’ group in Slade Green; and we’ll bring you their results when they’re announced.

MPs’ river crossing report - taxpayers deserve better

We submitted evidence to MPs on the Transport Select Committee who were conducting an inquiry into river crossings across the country. We think taxpayers deserve better than the report they came up with, though. Read our verdict.

Our annual general meeting

If you came to our annual general meeting at the end of January, thank you. It was a great success and we’re also grateful to Christian Wolmar for appearing as our guest speaker. The minutes from the meeting are now available.

Mention Silvertown on the doorstep

If you find a politician on the doorstep over the next few weeks, please, please, mention your opposition to the Silvertown Tunnel to them. Make sure they know that backing the toxic tunnel is a vote loser - and they should state loud and clear that they oppose it.

That’s all for this update - thank you, as always, for your support.

Best wishes - All at No to Silvertown Tunnel
